GreenTherm -
Biodegradable Packaging
Over the last few years we have seen the demand in biodegradable or “Green” Packaging become a more common demand from customers and from the general public. DGP Intelsius Ltd set its self a green statement to try and remove as much plastic from its products as it could. To begin with though we needed to know what we could do. So the mission itself was first to try and design a system that would be as green as possible, a benchmark for future ranges to compare themselves against, hence GreenTherm was created.

GreenTherm, from the outside looks like a relatively simple system but the amount of science and technology behind it is quite staggering. The system is made from a recycled corrugate outer which has printed with water-based inks which do not contain any harmful chemicals, abiding to strict laws and environmental legislation. The insulation is made from a organic fibre called Jute. Jute is made from old coffee and cocoa sacks which would otherwise go into landfill, but in this case are broken down into smaller fibres and compressed into a insulation pad. The pad is then covered with water resistant layer of PLA, currently the only suitable green plastic that could be worked with. The cool packs used are full biodegradable using organic gelling agents. Essentially what we have done is a completely vegan packaging solution.

The product range is ISTA 7D compliant and can hold its temperature (1-10C) for up to 48 hours. Making it one of the greenest and most effective cold chain packaging solutions on the market today
